Lonsdale, Sorace, Mackie named NAPA Auto Parts 3 Stars of the Week

Nanaimo Clippers forward Cole Lonsdale, Chilliwack Chiefs defenceman Lucas Sorace and Victoria Grizzlies forward Landon Mackie have been named the NAPA Auto Parts 3 Stars of the Week.

1st Star – Cole Lonsdale (F) – Nanaimo Clippers

Lonsdale led all BCHL players with five points last week after picking up three goals and two assists in a road set against the Prince George Spruce Kings.

The Rochester Institute of Technology commit did all of his damage on Saturday night, scoring his first hat trick in the BCHL and finishing with a career-best five points.

After picking up a power-play helper in the first period, he potted a goal and another assist in the second as Nanaimo clawed back from a two-goal deficit to even up the score. With his team once again down by two in the third, he sparked the comeback with his second of the game, then scored the overtime winner for his 14th goal of the season to clinch a 6-5 win.

Lonsdale, who will represent the Clippers at next month’s All-Star Weekend, is the team’s leading scorer with 34 points, also tying him for ninth overall in the BCHL.

2nd Star – Lucas Sorace (D) – Chilliwack Chiefs

Sorace tied for the points lead among defenceman last week, collecting four points on two goals and two assists in a pair of games over the weekend.

The fourth-year BCHL blueliner did all of his scoring on Friday night in Chilliwack’s 8-4 win over the Victoria Grizzlies. Sorace picked up an assist in the first period, then had a goal and a helper in the second as the team’s exchanged goals in a 4-4 tie at intermission. The 20-year-old netted his fourth of the season in the third to help the Chiefs pull away and was named first star of the game.

With 12 points on the season, Sorace is the team’s second highest scoring defenceman.

3rd Star – Landon Mackie (F) – Victoria Grizzlies

Mackie had four points in two games last week, notching two goals and two assists.

The 2006-born forward was in on three of Victoria’s four goals on Friday in their 8-4 loss to the Chilliwack Chiefs. Mackie had a goal and two assists as the teams were deadlocked in a 4-4 tie after two periods before the Chiefs went ahead for good in the third.

On Saturday, the Victoria product potted the game winner with 1:38 to play in regulation in the Grizzlies 3-2 road victory over the Langley Rivermen and was named the game’s first star.

Mackie now has points in three straight games, with four goals and three assists over that stretch. On the season, he has nine goals, seven assists and 16 points in 29 games.
